Grace Wales Bonner is a young fashion designer from England with English and Jamaican heritage.
In 2014 she graduated from Central Saint Martins which is one of the leading fashion universities worldwide, other notable graduates includes the likes of Alexander Lee MCQueen, Kiko Kostadinov, John Galliano, Hussein Chalayan and so forth.
Since 2020 the young British designer has an ongoing
partnership with adidas in which she explores the
diehard english football culture while picking up many
of the classic adidas silhouettes, such as the Samba, SL72,
Japan and the Country in the most recent season.
Overall the collaboration blends in perfectly with her general
design aesthetic creating sleek and elegant but also easy
looks in muted cream colors which have a vintage 1970s vibe.
Through her brand she has a way of constantly referencing her heritage. Even other black designers do not cast that many young black models and give them opportunities, it feels like she is giving back to her heritage with every detail of the collection.
The overall execution of the styling, casting as well as garments are very well thought out, resulting in one of Adidas' strongest high fashion collaborations.
Grace Wales Bonner has received numerous awards including Emerging Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards (2015), the LVMH Young Designer Prize (2016), Winner of the British Fashion Council/ Vogue Designer Fashion Fund (2019) and CFDA International Men's Designer of the Year (2021).
